Oakdale Tabernacle Restoration has Begun!
Two of our members are friends with Carl Lingle, of Lingle Design Group, an architectural firm, in Lena, IL. Aware that Carl's son was studying architecture in college and knowing he would be fascinated with the construction of the Tabernacle, they invited Carl and his son to visit the Tabernacle in late 2022. During the visit, Carl and his son offered to do a 3-D scan of the Tabernacle at no charge. Not knowing exactly what that was, we said yes, of course.
The first time we looked at the scan they did, we were "blown away". Wow. We are so thankful for the work they did. Click here and then use your mouse to move around the space. You can measure walls, go up, go down, move from one side to another. It's a pretty fantastic virtual way to take a look inside. Thank you to the father and son team that took the time to do this.

This magnificent structure, which holds the shared memories of countless thousands, needs your help. Our goal is to bring back to life your Tabernacle, our Tabernacle, this magnificent structure that has played such an important role for the citizens of northwest Illinois since 1915. But we can’t do it alone!
The Freeport Park District bought the Oakdale property in 1971 from the United Methodist Church and operated the grounds as a Nature preserve, renting out the Tabernacle and other facilities. After years of declining use and deferred maintenance since 2012, the Tabernacle was given a new lease on life.
In August of 2021 the Freeport Park District entered into a 20-year lease agreement with the volunteer group Save the Tabernacle, Inc. allowing the group to independently raise the funds and oversee the work needed to restore, revive, and operate this historically important architectural marvel.
Save the Tabernacle, Inc. is the 501c3, which has taken on the challenge of bringing this one-of-a kind facility back to its rightful place in the history of the Freeport area.
Your support to Save the Tabernacle, Inc.’s effort will help ensure this unique, historically significant structure will again welcome people from all walks of life into its magnificent interior. They will build their own cherished memories of time spent there.
